Sanity LLC » Web Site Rescue » Exotic Bird Services
Quick history
As many of you are aware, Charles Tillman unexpectedly passed away recently, leaving behind individuals equipped to continue his legacy.
What many of you may not be aware of, is the relationship W. Shawn Wilkerson (Founder, Sanity LLC), had with him. Over a decade ago Shawn and his wife, Vickie - one of Charles daughters, introduced the concept of using the internet to supplement the Bird Brain Express newsletter to reduce the massive cost associated with the printing and associated postage.
Shawn and Vickie then set out to build the original birdbrainexpress.com and slowly began the process of converting the newsletters to PDF files to be available on his site.
Over the years, Charles moved into web site development and proceeded to build many sites for the avian community, family members, and others. Until the end of 2010, Sanity LLC provided indirect support and web hosting for each of his web projects. During December 2010, Charles decided to make the move into a fully function web design company, providing his own support.
How we can help
Currently, Sanity LLC, has the computer used to manage each of the web projects. We have also taken control of the main account used to purchase and renew domain names. Additionally, we have obtained access to the web hosting provider so we can move your site(s) to a safe location.
In short, your sites are safe for the time being.
Now what
Sanity LLC, has agreed to host, support, and otherwise take on the clients formally serviced by Charles Tillman. Each of you will be contacted over the next few days as to your options, which are also laid out below:
- » All agreements made with Charles were with him. Sanity LLC only agrees to provide complimentary web site hosting until the current agreement ends as indicated on the invoices we have obtained copies of or the domain name expiration date - which ever comes first. Some of these agreements are scheduled to end as early as March 2012.
- » By default all accounts will be moved to Sanity LLC servers to remove a substantial monthly cost from his wife, beginning February 6, 2012. We are still waiting for original documentation from his accounting software, but we do have many invoices associated with his hosting clients. There will be no initial fee for this transfer, though payments for hosting will then be sent to Sanity LLC on the renewal date. We will be creating accounts in our on line system, which will result in multiple initial e-mails while we match your web hosting annual due dates to those previously existing with Charles. Many of these initial e-mails can be ignored, until we have the account completely set up. There may be some downtime during this process.
- » Some clients have already contacted us, desiring a complete rebuild of their web site. The above described transfer is free, while the rebuild will have an additional cost, which will be reduced for the clients of Charles who wish to remain with Sanity LLC.
- » You also have the option to move to another provider altogether. We will hate to see you go, but we will make the process as simple as possible. This will have additional hosting costs, as the new provider will most likely not honor your contract with Charles. For the time being you have the benefit of the time left in your account to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Cost
Typically, web hosting requires renewal once a year and occurs around the time the domain name needs to be renewed. If a domain name is not renewed it will expire and the associated web site will no longer be accessible, though it is still fully functional. This is similar to a light no longer working, simply because it is unplugged. The electric is still in the outlet, but the cord is no longer connected. At this point, anyone can purchase the domain name and build their own site and effectively replace yours by sending visitors to the new site.
As mentioned above, we have taken steps to protect your sites, but we need your involvement. When it comes to renewing you services, many of the sites hosted by Charles will cost only $123 per year, which will renew the domain name and repurchase the space used to house the site on the server.
